Masseria Longa
Natural stone paving and Trani marble outdoors, in a masseria where stone is already the substance of the walls.

The rooms and bathrooms of Masseria Longa are carved inside walls of stone blocks and exposed stone vaults. The supply had to sit in that context without drawing attention, and at the same time stand up to the daily use of a guest house.
The context
A historic building where stone is already everywhere — walls, vaults, niches — and where a new floor risks jarring in tone. What was needed was a material that agreed with the existing blocks and that could pass from indoors to outdoors without a break.
The work
Floors in pale stone slabs laid in courses of mixed formats, from the bedrooms to the bathrooms and out to the walkways. In the bathrooms the stone becomes furniture too: basins carved from the solid, monolithic steps rising to the tub, niches and shelves edged in stone.
