Private home, Ostuni

Traditional Apulian architecture and modern solutions in the White City.

Private homeOstuni
Façade of the restored trullo with a light blue door, stone steps and pots of succulents

The restored trullo, the dry-stone walls and the pool live together in one layout. The stone moves from its old role — blocks, steps, low walls — to the contemporary one of a ribbed slab used as cladding.

The context

A setting in which local stone is already the lead, and in which every addition risks looking grafted on. The traditional language of the dry-stone walls and the modern one of continuous surfaces had to be held together, without letting either win.

The work

Poolside and outdoor paving in pale stone slabs, set against bands of dark cobbles. On the fronts, full-height ribbed slab cladding, recessed between the dry-stone walls; on the trullo, steps and thresholds in solid stone.

  • Trani stone
  • Slabs for poolsides
  • Ribbed slab cladding
  • Steps and thresholds in solid stone
